National Housing Federation website migration

The National Housing Federation represent the work of housing associations and campaign for better, affordable housing. In just 13 weeks we moved their site to a new, user-friendly CMS, migrated all content and re-built a complex intranet integration. We have since made a number of significant updates to improve functionality and created a public forum site, events micro sites and an interactive quiz.

Website migration

The National Housing Federation approached us with a CMS that was inflexible and unfriendly to use. With the public looking to them as the voice of affordable housing, they needed a migration to a new CMS which would allow them to update their content freely, without wasting time. 

We migrated the entire website content and structure into our CMS of choice ExpressionEngine as we feel this has the best back-end user experience. The migration involved using a number of techniques to move the data which was a technical challenge. We also improved the look and feel by creating a consistent modern visual language across the whole design.

Conference micro-sites

The Federation put on a number of conferences across the year which warrant their own digital presence. We designed and built a solution which allows branded events micro-sites to be easily rolled-out as required. Eachconference website can be personalised by changing the colours, logos and sponsors to correspond with the event and all content can be managed through the CMS. We also developed a tool for exhibitors to register online for the conference and upload details about their company to appear in the guide and on the site.

Creating a public forum and custom campaign section

As leaders in the housing debate, the Federation wanted a public forum where they could start these important discussions. We created HotHouse, an area where they could upload an article and spark debate. To facilitate this we integrated the site with Disqus. This proved a simple and effective way to promote engagement.

Campaigning is key to the Federation's work and we have created visually compelling custom campaign sections to aid them in this, an example is the General Election campaign focussed on pushing the issue of housing in the lead up to the general election.
